Lincoln house is located in the upscale Beach Crady area of South Mumbai. The Rs 7.5 billion or Rs 750 Crores mansion belongs to Cyrus Poonawalla, Billionaire and Chairman of Serum Institute. The property was earlier owned by the U.S. government and used as a Consulate house. Originally the property was the mansion of a Maharaja of Wankaner. The mansion was sold in 1957 to the U.S. government. The property was available for sale for four years before it was sold. Poonawalla finalized the deal for the mansion in 2015.
Lincoln House is a Grade-III heritage property. Currently, Grade-III properties can be redeveloped as per the policy related to heritage sites. However, the Poonawalla family plans to use the house for residential purposes. The property is spread across an area of 2 acres. The total built-up area of the property is 50,000 square feet. Earlier the U.S. consulate demanded a price of around Rs. 850 Crores.
